“I cannot close my eyes and look the other way. We are one family.”

– Bridgette Knox, Founder

One Family Foundation mark

As with many islands in the Pacific, The Solomons are home to impoverished communities living life in the third world. Here everyday life is a struggle. The One Family Foundation is a not for profit organisation raising awareness and funds to support the basic human rights of these and other Pacific peoples.

Inspired by the people of Malaita, a remote province in the Solomon Islands, One Family Foundation was founded after many months exploring the most effective way to help improve their extremely difficult lives. Our organisation focusses on three areas essential to advancing a communities’ wellbeing. Providing the tools for better education, facilitating economic development and improving access to effective healthcare. Addressing these issues is a vital foundation for communities to build to equality in this ever advancing world.

One Family Foundation does not affiliate with any one religion nor does it support political parties.

We are one family, all are welcome.

OUR MISSION IS TO SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT IN THREE KEY AREAS

ACCESS TO EDUCATION

Education in not free. Families spend their lifetime’s financial resources on providing access to education. Simple supplies like batteries, so children can study at night can be an out of reach luxury for these people.
A building has been secured for a library. This location will act as a hub for One Family Foundation as well as offering children greater access to books. Adult reading classes can also take place here.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

There is no government assistance, 70% unemployment and wages are meagre. Both young men and women can earn tertiary level qualifications and masters degrees yet no job prospects. Venturing into small businesses with no start up capital is a barrier to the creation of jobs.
One Family Foundation is working create jobs through the planting of coffee in the highlands and by securing export markets for it’s sale.

MEDICAL TREATMENT

Adequate medical care is essential to the wellbeing of any community. In a community of 45,000, with a single clinic where there has not been a doctor for 20 years, appointing a doctor is crucial. For the One Family Foundation, this is top priority.
Water mains are essential to supply clean water to the clinic. There are many days go by without water. No clean washing water. No toilet.

BRIDGETTE KNOX

FOUNDER, ONE FAMILY FOUNDATION

I’ve always had access to a doctor, an education and a job. I thought it was my god-given right. Visiting the people of Malaita was the biggest reality check. I can’t forget what I saw. I am determined we can make a difference.
By establishing One Family Foundation, it is my hope that the trust can help not only the people of the Solomon Islands but our neighbours in other Pacific nations too.
